Dama Deer Management was founded by Jack, a highly conservation minded person who has worked in a wide range of countryside enterprises, including professional deer management, forestry, farming, river restoration and ecology.

After seeing a huge need for deer management in the UK and not seeing enough of it undertaken by professionals, Jack decided to create Dama Deer Management.

The time has come for a Deervolution.

Who we are

The UK is home to six species of deer. These include Red Deer and Roe Deer, which are native, and four introduced species: Fallow, Muntjac, Sika and Chinese water deer.

Natural predators of deer, such as bears, lynx and wolves, are now extinct in Britain. Within properly functioning ecosystems, deer play an important role by maintaining open areas which can enhance the biodiversity and habitat quality of a woodland. However, without any predators, large deer populations can have a devastating effect on their environment. This is where we must step in!

Too many deer, so what? Every year in the UK deer cause millions of pounds worth of damage to commercial forestry including many sites of special scientific interest, cereal crops and damage to vehicles during road traffic collisions.

Deer culling is not just undertaken for landowner benefit; it is also vital in ensuring the long-term health of a herd. When a piece of land becomes overpopulated, welfare issues will soon arise and deer are more likely to succumb to illness or starvation.
